This map ranks all 18 Ligue 1 teams of 2024–25 on the five style axes behind our FM26 tactic cards: pressing intensity, defensive line, tempo, width and build-up. The tables below show the teams at each end of every axis, the chart sets pressing against possession, and the full grid for all 18 teams is at the bottom.
What the five axes measure
- Pressing Intensity — Tackles won, interceptions and fouls, ranked twice and combined: once per game and once relative to the time spent without the ball, with the second ranking counted double.
- Defensive Line — Opponents caught offside per game. Teams that hold a higher line usually catch more.
- Tempo — Shots per game.
- Width — Crosses per game.
- Build-Up — Share of possession. The cards read more of the ball as a shorter build-up.
Every rank is within this league’s 18 teams for this season.
Pressing against possession
PSG: last on the pressing count, 19 points clear
Paris Saint-Germain won with 84 points, 19 clear of Marseille in second. They led two axes: tempo (18.5 shots a game, against 14.5 for Monaco in second) and possession (68.0%, against 63.3% for Marseille). Their defensive line was 4th (2.1 opposition offsides a game).
Their pressing rank hides a big gap between two numbers. PSG ranked level in 5th overall, but on the plain per-game count of tackles won, interceptions and fouls they were 18th of 18. Counted against the time they spent without the ball, they were 2nd. It is the same pattern as Barcelona in the La Liga report and Bayern in the Bundesliga report: the team that has the ball most has the fewest chances to win it back.
The best pressers finished 2nd, 3rd, 8th and 9th
AS Monaco ranked 1st for pressing (1st per game, 3rd adjusted) and 2nd for tempo, and finished 3rd with 61 points. Lens were 2nd and finished 8th with 52. Brest and Marseille were level in 3rd and finished 9th and 2nd. The three teams that pressed least, Reims, Nantes and Le Havre, finished 16th, 13th and 15th.
Marseille: highest line, second most possession
Marseille finished 2nd with 65 points. They had the highest defensive line (opponents caught offside 2.7 times a game) and the second-highest possession (63.3%), and their pressing was level in 3rd: 16th on the per-game count and 2nd once time without the ball is counted. Rennes were 2nd for line (2.6) and Auxerre 3rd (2.4); they finished 12th and 11th.
Width belonged to the middle and bottom of the table
Lens crossed the most (20.8 a game), ahead of Le Havre (20.4) and Montpellier (19.0). They finished 8th, 15th and 18th, and Montpellier ended bottom with 16 points. The narrowest team was Saint-Étienne (11.8 crosses a game), who finished 17th.
Nice: low line, high tempo
Nice were 17th for defensive line (0.8 opposition offsides a game) and 3rd for tempo (14.3 shots a game), and finished 4th with 60 points. Angers had the same 0.8 on the line axis and the lowest tempo (9.2 shots a game), and finished 14th. At the bottom of possession were Nantes (40.4%), Angers (41.2%) and Auxerre (42.5%).

† Changed manager during the season. The figures are the team’s whole season, so they mix more than one manager’s games; the card is filed under one of them, with the number of games that manager took. Teams without a card (—) are kept as a team record only, usually because no manager was in charge for most of the season.
Notes and sources
- Teams level on a stat share a place, shown as =3rd. Brest and Marseille share 3rd for pressing, which is why the top pressing table shows four teams.
- Figures are rounded to one decimal place, while ranks use the unrounded figures. Nice and Angers both show 0.8 opposition offsides a game but rank 17th and 18th.
- † marks a team that changed manager during the season: Lyon, Rennes, Reims, Saint-Étienne and Montpellier. Their figures cover the whole season, so they mix more than one manager's games. Rennes have no FM26 card because no single manager had enough games.
- Marseille, Nice, Angers and Le Havre link to a hand-researched card instead. Its five axes show the same ranks as this report, but the rest of the card was researched and written separately and describes the manager’s approach in its own words, so it may not line up with every number here.
