This map ranks all 18 Ligue 1 teams of 2023–24 on the five style axes behind our FM26 tactic cards: pressing intensity, defensive line, tempo, width and build-up. The tables below show the teams at each end of every axis, the chart sets pressing against possession, and the full grid for all 18 teams is at the bottom.
What the five axes measure
- Pressing Intensity — Tackles won, interceptions and fouls, ranked twice and combined: once per game and once relative to the time spent without the ball, with the second ranking counted double.
- Defensive Line — Opponents caught offside per game. Teams that hold a higher line usually catch more.
- Tempo — Shots per game.
- Width — Crosses per game.
- Build-Up — Share of possession. The cards read more of the ball as a shorter build-up.
Every rank is within this league’s 18 teams for this season.
Pressing against possession
PSG: 65% possession, the narrowest play
Paris Saint-Germain won with 76 points, nine clear of Monaco on 67. They had by far the most possession (65.2%, against 56.6% for Lille in second) and were 2nd for tempo (14.8 shots a game), but ranked last for width (15.1 crosses a game). Their pressing was 4th overall: 17th of 18 on the plain per-game count, 2nd once time without the ball is counted. It is the same pattern as in the Ligue 1 2024–25 report, a season later.
Monaco: first for pressing and tempo, 2nd in the table
AS Monaco ranked 1st for pressing (1st per game, 2nd adjusted) and 1st for tempo (15.1 shots a game), and finished 2nd with 67 points. Reims were 2nd for pressing and finished 9th with 47. Brest were 3rd and finished 3rd with 61. At the other end Lorient ranked last and Metz were 17th, finishing 17th and 16th. Nice were 16th for pressing and finished 5th with 55 points.
Brest: the widest team, 3rd in the table
Brest crossed 23.3 times a game, the most in Ligue 1, ahead of Lens (21.6) and Marseille (21.0). They finished 3rd with 61 points. The three narrowest teams were PSG (15.1), Monaco (15.2) and Toulouse (15.5), the first two the top two in the table.
Lines: Lille highest, Toulouse lowest
Lille had the highest defensive line (opponents caught offside 2.7 times a game), ahead of Strasbourg (2.2) and Le Havre (2.1), and finished 4th with 59 points. Strasbourg finished 13th and Le Havre 15th. Lens and Marseille were level in 15th for line (1.1), with Toulouse and Lorient lower. Metz had the lowest tempo (9.6 shots a game) and the least possession (35.6%), and finished 16th with 29 points.

† Changed manager during the season. The figures are the team’s whole season, so they mix more than one manager’s games; the card is filed under one of them, with the number of games that manager took. Teams without a card (—) are kept as a team record only, usually because no manager was in charge for most of the season.
Notes and sources
- Teams level on a stat share a place, shown as =15th. Lens and Marseille share 15th for defensive line, so that bottom table shows four teams.
- Figures are rounded to one decimal place, while ranks use the unrounded figures. Toulouse and Lorient both show 1.1 opposition offsides a game but rank 18th and 17th.
- † marks a team that changed manager during the season: Lyon, Marseille, Reims, Rennes and Nantes. Their figures cover the whole season, so they mix more than one manager's games. Marseille and Nantes have no FM26 card because no single manager had enough games.
- AS Monaco, Brest and Le Havre link to a hand-researched card instead. Its five axes show the same ranks as this report, but the rest of the card was researched and written separately and describes the manager’s approach in its own words, so it may not line up with every number here.
